Riding a bike for hundreds of kilometres to a new city is tiring and risky, especially when your whole family is relocating. Sending it by road on a truck or a carrier is a simpler option, if it is done carefully.
Ways to send a bike
- Along with your household goods in the same truck, wrapped and secured in a separate place. This is often the most economical way.
- In a part load going to your city, if you are sending only the bike.
How a bike should be packed
- The tank, seat, mirrors, lights and painted panels are covered with foam and wrap.
- Handlebars, foot pegs and other projecting parts are padded.
- The bike is tied firmly so that it cannot move or fall.
- When more than one bike is sent, they are kept apart.
Your preparation
- Take photographs of all sides, and note down the odometer reading.
- Keep only a little fuel in the tank, as advised.
- Remove helmets, bags, locks and other loose accessories.
- For electric scooters, tell the transporter, and follow instructions about the battery.
- Keep the registration certificate, insurance and your identity proof with you.
At delivery
